This first module has been designed to enable participants to update their background in strategic management.

The course  presents the usual as well as the most recent methods and tools (external and internal) of strategic diagnosis and the formulation of corporate strategy including central decisions at the corporate level such as strategic options, portfolio management, and value creation.

ORGANIZATION AND CONTENTS

The first part will review central concepts in strategy like vision, mission, and intent. Emphasis is laid on the classical External-Internal diagnosis.  Then we will turn to more advanced methods and tools, including scenario, options and how to shape and assess strategy implementation in the course of actions. Following conceptual frameworks integrating the key ingredients of strategic options, we will critically review a range of modern concepts and analytical techniques to discuss the contexts in which they are best applied. Finally the course will address strategic options (specialisation, diversification, integration) and how to integrate diagnosis at the corporate level.
