Theseus-EDHEC MBA: Modular Format - Keep your Job and Follow an MBA

Published on October 15, 2007

The decision to do an MBA is not always easy. Apart from the sometimes daunting thought of going back into a classroom, for many it means giving up a steady job and a regular income. EDHEC has the ideal solution; the Theseus-EDHEC MBA Modular Format. This programme follows the same curriculum as the full time MBA but with an added attraction - participants can follow the programme and continue to work at the same time.

The curriculum of the Theseus -EDHEC MBA is composed of 41 modules, varying in length from 1-3 weeks. The idea of the Modular MBA is that participants can choose to follow a number of modules at a given time, perhaps using holiday leave or negotiating a training period with their employer, and then returning to their job at the end of this module.

Arnaud Le Devehat (France) who started his MBA in 2006, explains why he opted for this flexible format.

"I chose to follow the MBA on a modular base because I felt it wasn't the right time to give up my job completely. I still had some missions to carry out in my company and wasn't ready to drop these. EDHEC designed a course rhythm with my company to suit my constraints, allowing me to continue these missions and get my MBA. I started at EDHEC in 2006 and followed the first module. This included the eye-opening New visions-New Ambitions module and the Global Business module and classes such as Accounting, Managing & leading people, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Organisation theory and Project management.

After the first term I returned to my job as planned, and was keen to put my newly-learned theoretical knowledge into practice. Next year I will attend the second term and complete my MBA in 2009. This Modular basis is great for people like me who don't want to give up their job - it also suits my company which benefits from my new know-how and my re-kindled motivation and this actually led to a promotion a short while after my return. Another bonus is that I'm enlarging my network, last year there were 17 nationalities in the class, this year there are 19. The group work throughout the programme makes integration and easy and I appreciate the chance to make more contacts."

Depending on the participant's constraints, a tailor-made programme structure can be developed and by alternating periods in their company and in the classroom, they can complete their MBA within a period of 2 or 3 years.

Tuition fees for the Theseus-EDHEC MBA in Modular format are the same as for the full time MBA. The advantage is that the fees are split over the chosen length of study and that payments do not increase each year.
