Financial Times Praises EDHEC's Finance Programmes

Published on June 19, 2007

In a recent FT article entitled "Placing Students is a Gratifying Occupation", EDHEC's MSc in Finance is clearly shown to be one of Europe's leading qualifications in finance due to its cutting edge course structure and the fact that has the distinction of being an Official Program Partner with the CFA Institute.

Ref. Financial Times 18th June 2007, Financial Training Survey, Placing Students is a Gratifying Occupation.

EDHEC's MSc in Finance and MSc in Risk and Asset Management programmes were highlighted in Monday's edition of the Financial Times supplement Financial Training in an article entitled Placing Students is a Gratifying Occupation.  David Hampton, the MSc Finance and MSc in Risk and Asset Management programme manager was interviewed along with Linda Kreitzman (Executive Director of the Masters in Financial Engineering programme at the University of California at Berkeley's Haas School of Business), Stanley Myint of BNP Paribas and Brian Hood, the graduate recruitment manager for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region at Citigroup.

In the article Mr. Hampton pointed out how the quantitative needs required by global banking institutions and investment firms are being met by specialised programmes such as those offered at the MSc level at EDHEC, effectively replacing many roles that would have previously been performed by PhD quants. Due to the wide ranging nature of the subjects covered in these programmes, EDHEC's graduates have a solid foundation and a 360° view of global finance, enabling them to fit easily into most professional situations required of them in the real world, either in corporate finance or market based finance roles. Whilst the classic scientific PhD quant will always be in demand in the highly complex area of stochastic number crunching, exotic derivative pricing and optimisation within the sector, their managers will more than likely be all-rounder finance executives who could well have an MSc in Finance or Risk and Asset Management.

In the article Mr. Hampton also pointed out how he believed the new Bologna process of tertiary education harmonisation within Europe will lead to better transparency, increase the level of competition between Europe's business schools  and have an overall beneficial impact.

In the survey, the EDHEC MSc in Finance is also clearly shown to be one of Europe's leading qualifications in finance due to its cutting edge course structure and the fact that has the distinction of being an Official Program Partner with the CFA Institute. Students can thus easily take the CFA Level 1 exam at the end of the MSc in Finance programme and at the same time go much deeper into other areas of global finance as taught within the programme.

The MSc Finance Programme and MSc Risk and Asset Management Programmes for 2007/2008 will have ten modules each of 30 hours, lectured by top international professors both resident at EDHEC and from renowned external academic institutions. At the same time, both programmes will share four managerial seminars of 15 hours each on : VBA/Matlab programming for finance, Ethics & Entrepreneurship, Cross Cultural Communication and Research Methodologies for Business & Consulting.

In addition to the successfully completed nine months of full-time on-site teaching by the typical use of case studies, projects, reports, presentations and exams on the Nice campus, the students must also successfully complete and defend a full Master's thesis and satisfy a minimum three month professional work experience placement before they can be awarded their MSc degree.

Many of the graduating class of 2007 in EDHEC's MSc in Finance and MSc in Risk and Asset Management have already found full time jobs with the typical base full-time salary so far ranging from 40k - 70k euros or 50k-90k USD.
